“Pahneh Parvaz News” is dedicated to showcasing individuals who have broken the barriers of physical limitations and achieved great success. Today, we are honored to speak with Preety Dabby, a young girl from Mauritius, who, despite her blindness, has not only led a powerful and fulfilling life but also utilized her artistic talents to shine in society. In this interview, Preety shares her life challenges, achievements, and dreams for the future.
Q: Preety, at the age of 20, you’ve already achieved remarkable success despite being blind. What inspired you to pursue this path?
Preety Dabby: First and foremost, I must say that my blindness has never been an obstacle for me. From the beginning, I’ve believed that nothing in life is impossible. Having a limitation does not mean you can’t reach your goals. I’ve always approached life as a challenge and remained ready to confront whatever comes my way.
Q: You are a Grade 11 student and study alongside other students in a mainstream school. How have you adapted to this environment?
Preety Dabby: It’s true that I study in a regular school, and I follow the same curriculum as everyone else. But this has only been possible through determination and hard work. With the support of my teachers and friends, I’ve been able to master my subjects and consistently excel in exams. I’ve never allowed my blindness to hold me back.
Q: You also have a remarkable talent for music. When did you realize you had a gift for singing and songwriting?
Preety Dabby: Music has always been a part of my life. From a young age, I loved singing and writing songs. Over time, I realized that this talent could not only help me express my emotions but also serve as a way to connect with others. Music is a language without borders, and I want to share that voice with the world.
Q: Have you encountered any challenges along the way?
Preety Dabby: Definitely. Life isn’t always easy. In society, we sometimes face distrust towards our abilities. People often see us as vulnerable, which results in fewer opportunities being offered to us. But I’ve always strived to prove through my actions that we are just like everyone else and can even exceed expectations.
Q: You’ve mentioned the struggles that women with disabilities face in society. In your opinion, what changes are needed for them to gain their rightful place?
Preety Dabby: In my view, the most important thing that needs to change is people’s mindset. We need an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of disability, is given equal rights. There also needs to be better services for disabled individuals in education, the workplace, and public facilities. These changes should not only be implemented in laws but also reflected in people’s attitudes and behavior.
Q: What is your goal in participating in this event, and what message do you want to convey to the community?
Preety Dabby: My goal in participating in this event is to raise awareness about the challenges that women with disabilities face in our country. We need society to believe in us and grant us the same rights and respect as others. I want to show through my involvement in this competition that we have immense abilities and deserve to be recognized.
